Aspenware Commerce’s Age Rules feature can be utilized to control which guests are permitted to be assigned to a product, product variation, or add-on product based on the guest’s age.

In many instances resorts offer different product variations that are sold at different prices based on a guest’s age. Lift tickets, season passes, lessons, and other products are often priced differently to maximize sales and increase revenue for resorts. Because of this, resorts need the ability to allow guests within a specified age range to buy a particular product; while blocking guests outside of that age range from purchasing that same product. With Aspenware’s Age Range feature you can easily create rules to accomplish this.

As a guest logs in to Aspenware Commerce, the guest and their household information from RTP is hydrated into their account. With this information from RTP, and by utilizing Age Range rules in Aspenware Commerce, a resort has the ability to define which existing and new guests in their household can be assigned a product during the purchase flow. If configured, assignment can happen on the product detail page or in checkout. In the example below, you’ll notice that only adults can be assigned to the adult products. On the product detail page, the non adult family members are greyed out and not selected. On the checkout assignment step, only the adults are able to be selected from the assignment drop down

Currently the feature has the capability to set age ranges in whole values to determine if a guest's age should allow them to be assigned to a product and age validation can be calculated based on:

  • Sale date: the date the guest is completing their transaction online

    • Example: is the guest 18 at time of purchase?

  • Product’s start date: the date the guest’s purchased item is being redeemed, also known as the product date.

    • Example: is the guest 18 when they will show up for their activity?

  • Age as of a a specified date: a specified date such as 1/1/2021. This is often used for season pass purchases and calculated as of the season start date.

    • Example: is the guest 18 as of a specified future or past date?

By utilizing this feature, resorts have control of which guests can be assigned to a product based on an age range. In turn this will promote increased sales, increased revenue, and reduces the ability for guests to fraudulently purchase cheaper products not within their age range.
