The product shell is used to create core products and add-ons products. The product shell is also the required foundation for creating advanced products that utilize all of Aspenware Commerce’s features.

As the product shell is used as the foundation for all products and add-ons, it is used no matter what type of product is being configured. Below are some examples of product shells using minimum functionality.

  • Media Product - A simple media product would only require basic product shell setup.

  • Optional Add-ons - When a simple product shell is created, it can be added to a core product as an optional or required add-on. Simple add-ons could be anything such as a free ‘Kid’s Ski Free pass’, pass refund protection, or anything with a single SKU.

NOTE: Attributed add-ons can also be created but are not an example of an add-on only using basic product shell functionality.

  • Unique resort products - Simple products with a single SKU suited for all participants. A summer gondola ride, tickets to a special event, etc. These products can be set up as a free product or as a priced product.
