Reservation products can be used to enforce that $0 reservation product bookings can only be made by eligible guests (meaning they have purchased a precursor product) and the reservation system can enforce limits on how many reservation products can be “on the books” for a given customer at a time. Finally, reservation products allow guests to self-serve in managing their reservations by cancelling reservations themselves (assuming it is within the allowed cancellation window)
The following examples of reservations are being setup or are in use.
Passholder Reservations during Covid 19 - Several resorts had passholder reservations setup as an insurance policy during COVID-19 in the case that regulations became severe enough that passholders would need to reserve their days to ski.
Woodward Membership Hub Booking Products - Woodward Park City offers a continual membership, which is more like a gym membership than a season pass. They require members to reserve their “booking hub” $0 spot for certain capacity limited products. Woodward is exploring using reservations for their booking products so that members can self-cancel hub sessions and view their upcoming reserved days.
Limited passholder perks reservations - Jackson Hole offered select season pass holders access to an early tram for one day of their choosing, and required passholders to make their reservation in advance using a reservation product. Passholders could cancel and re-book up to 1 day in advance of their reservation.
