Are you considering selling gift cards online? Orders placed within Aspenware can sync to the Delivery Method and Delivery Detail fields in RTP and are stored on the order line item in ONE|Resort Order Processing (see HUB Article https://hub.aspenware.net/main/Delivery%2FShipping.1166835773.html for details). Use the sections below to help plan the best gift card configuration for your resort.

---|---|---|
What gift card amounts do you want to offer? | Gift card amounts should be created as attribute combinations to define the PHC and pricing for each option. This can be displayed as a radio button or a drop-down on the PDP based on resort preferences. | |
Do you want to allow on-site pickup? | The Delivery Method for on-site pickup can be selected by the guest on the PDP by using an add-on product that has Delivery associated to it. The Delivery Method for on-site pickup can also be set on the Core product. Note: If you are offering on-site pickup as the only option or are not charging for shipping then setting the Delivery Method to the Core product is recommended. If you are charging for shipping then see additional considerations below. | |
Do you want to allow free shipping? | Set up the Core product using AW’s Delivery module in order to collect the guest’s address during checkout. Note: The shipping destination is only supported at the order-level. Guests cannot purchase multiple gift cards and ship them to different addresses within the same order. | |
Do you want to charge a shipping fee per product? This will | Set up an Add-On product using AW’s Delivery module in order to collect the guest’s address during checkout. Then assign this Add-On product to the Core product as a required attribute. Note: The shipping destination is only supported at the order-level. Guests cannot purchase multiple gift cards and ship them to different addresses within the same order. | |
Do you want to charge a shipping fee at the order-level? | This is supported when AW Retail is configured within your store. Note 1: See HUB article on https://hub.aspenware.net/main/Retail.1285783752.html requirements as pro-service hours may be required to enable in your store.Note 2: There is also a method to setup the product to first ask “How many gift cards are you purchasing?” then the guest could add multiple cards at once while only being charged one fee for shipping. This is not recommended as it complicates the PDP unnecessarily for guests.Note 3: The shipping destination is only supported at the order-level. Guests cannot purchase multiple gift cards and ship them to different addresses within the same order. | |
Do you charge different pricing for faster shipping speeds? | __ NoteSet up two or more Add-On products using AW’s Delivery module. Price each Add-On with the desired shipping cost. On the Core product, assign these Add-On products as unique attribute values under the same attribute. Note 1: This is only applicable to non-retail configurations.Note 2: The shipping destination is only supported at the order-level. Guests cannot purchase multiple gift cards and ship them to different addresses within the same order. | |
Do you want to provide customization to the gift card such as recipient name or a personalized message? | Utilize prompts to collect custom messaging to include on gift cards. Note: See https://hub.aspenware.net/main/Simple-Prompts.1060602198.html for configuration requirements. | |
Do you want to enable guest checkout? |
Retail product
Likely the best option. If we set this up as a retail product the PDP looks a little different (see Abasin HERE) but we are able to charge the guest only 1 shipping fee no matter how many gift cards are in their cart. This would also be beneficial to have configured if you ever decide to sell retail products online in the future.
Per Product Fee
See example product in your Test site HERE. The guest would be charged the shipping fee for every gift card to be shipped. They could also add some gift cards to be shipped and some to be picked up.
Condition Product
This would use conditions on the PDP and cascade down a series of questions:
“How many gift cards for purchase?”
“What value should each gift card be?”
“Pickup or ship?”
It’s a lot more build in Admin, and not as clean of a guest experience on the PDP. I wouldn’t recommend this, but it would work to enable guests to purchase multiple gift cards in one order and only be charged a single shipping fee.
A few more notes:
I would recommend setting up gift card products with Guest Checkout enabled
Only one shipping destination can be input per order
Retail setup will take some more time to implement so if that is desired we should plan additional time to configure that
Examples
Below are some examples that resorts have used in their environments:
Alyeska Example
Guest has option to all start-dates that still have available inventory
The Long description provides details for the camp dates
Optional add-ons
...
This reduces friction to complete an order for only gift cards. Note: See setup Guest Checkout requirments and feature notes: https://hub.aspenware.net/main/Configuring-Guest-Checkout.1346338841.html |
