The combination of those three settings, when they have high values is very disruptive and dilutes the impact that you are looking for when you employ cross-sell. Change the settings until you feel you’ve found the sweet spot.

Q: Is the cross sell logic based on most recent add to cart, or everything in cart? For example if we have cross sells built to show product B after product A is added to cart, and product D after product C is added to cart, and A is already in my cart and then I add C to cart, do I see B and D, or just D?

A: In this scenario, let’s assume that all 4 products are cross sold for each item.

A triggers B, C and D. (in this order)

B triggers A, C & D.

C triggers A, B, & D.

D triggers A, B & C.

I add Product A to my cart, and the Lightbox displays B, C and D (in this order).

I select C, and add to my cart, and the lightbox displays B and D (in this order).

I select D, and add to my cart ( which already has A and C in it), and the lightbox will only display B.

The minicart will display all of the attached items MINUS anything added to the cart, so as an item is added to the cart it is disappearing from the minicart. (This behavior should be one consideration when deciding how many items to attach to each product.)

Each time you add to cart the logic evaluates what is currently in the cart and removes any item that is currently in the cart from the lightbox display and the mini cart. As items drop from the lightbox display, they are either replaced by the next item in the list of cross sold items, or the lightbox shrinks to adjusts to display fewer items.
