So if the family members do not have the role, they will be able to purchase the product if the signed in user has the role. However to gate it further to only allow assignment of eligible guests, couple customer roles with a validated procedure in RTP. In this case, only the eligible user will be able to be assigned to the product and checkout with it.

A: Yes, this is a great use of customer roles. Assign the admin customer roles to categories or products that you don't want publicly accessible, and only admins will be able to purchase/shop for pre-released products to test them in live.
