Discount codes can be widely distributed promo codes, valid for a limited time, or user-specific codes burned after one use that gives access to a highly discounted, or free product. In Aspenware Commerce, discount codes can be applied to get a percentage off or dollar amount off specific product(s) or off of order totals. There are many creative ways that these can be used.

Discount on full priced product rather than access to discounted or free “gated products”
Shopping cart discount codes can have some limits placed on them, like only discount up to X amount, but in general, if tight rules are needed on who can and can’t receive this particular discount, checkout discount codes provide more “security”.
Brand Evangelists
One resort realized the value of their college students, who, may not be made of cash, do have a lot of influence. They enabled a group of college students to be pass evangelists by giving each “college rep” a unique promo code to share with their friends. The more their unique code was used, the more that “college rep got off their own pass.
With all the advanced pricing for lift tickets, it’s hard to stomach offering additional discounts off the already aggressive discounts offered online. Another resort wanted to offer discounts on lift tickets, but only off their window rates. They created a special window rate lift ticket product, priced at the window rate as a separate product from their regular online lift ticket product. Then they set up desired promo codes and only assigned the codes to the window rate priced product, and not the online rate product.
Other ideas:
Offer loyal guests a limited time use promo code when tickets first go on sale.
Upsell day-ticket guests who buy in advance by sending out a limited time use promo code for kids lessons in their email confirmation only valid to use October through season start.
Reward season pass holders by sending them a set of one time use per customer promo codes to get discounted lockers, parking passes and local programs in their order confirmation
